Rebuild is typically the right call when the head passes crack/pressure testing and has sufficient material remaining for milling. Signs that point toward a rebuild: warped deck, worn valve guides, receded seats, or head gasket failure caused by overheating. Replacement is better when the head is severely cracked, has been resurfaced multiple times (minimum thickness risk), or has heat damage beyond the deck surface.
